A disgruntled man from Southern Highlands went berserk with a gun at the Port Moresby Domestic Airport Terminal car park, shooting at people from the back of a utility with a pump action shot gun.It has been reported that he was part of a group of four armed men who went to the domestic terminal to challenge the executives of the Moran Special Purposes Authority (MSPA) which his brother was the disposed Chairman in recent elections.
M
aybe because the man didn’t find his target , the newly elected MSPA Chairman, he opened fire on the unsuspecting public, wounding some and send others scuttling for cover.
The gunman was eventually shot twice in the legs by a lone policeman. Witnesses said the policeman should have shot and killed the man but he opted to take his legs, sparing the gunman’s life.
Police arrested all the men present. The firearms confiscated from the suspects were all registered.
Moran is one of the important oil and gas fields operated by Oil Search Limited and is integral to the PNG LNG project.
As the LNG project steams on ahead, will we see more car park incidents?
